Birdman recalls a sad moment when Lil Wayne was 12 years old: ‘At that time I thought we couldn’t see Lil Wayne in the present anymore’

Birdman describes the terrifying time Lil Wayne nearly died.

Jalen Rose released his new Cash Money Record co-founder interview on Wednesday, January 24. The sportscaster met the record label executive on a yacht near downtown Miami. Rose explored Birdman’s life before rap and Cash Money’s founding with him. Baby remembered discovering that his previous rapper Lil Wayne shot himself at 12 midway through.

“He was writing a rap called ‘The Nine’ when his index finger… the bullet when above his heart,” Birdman said.

“When that incident happened to Wayne, I went to the hospital the same day and the next day he went home,” he said. “I felt God had a different plan for him. Wayne changed during the Hоt Boys era.”

Wayne survived because police officer Robert Hoobler, known as “Uncle Bob,” came to his home and saved him. Birdman then shared his feelings when Hоt Boys split. He announced his retirement from rapping and passed the torch to Weezy. That’s when Birdman became an executive and highlighted Wayne.

Birdman said, “I didn’t wanna rap no more at the height of my career.” ‘Look Wayne, I don’t wanna rap anymore. Giving you the flow. Run the label. I’ll follow the label president. I said, ‘I’mma go study the business and you run the label and do your thing’ and stepped back as an artist and CEO, which altered his life.”

Birdman also discussed his collaboration with Pharrell Williams on “What Happened To That Boy.” His first producer outside of Mannie Fresh was Skateboard P.
